We’re pleased to present this impeccable example of a Karmann Ghia cabriolet, which has undergone an extensive restoration.

Originally starting its life as a 1966 model in California, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive restoration by Andy Finch at Spike’s Vintage Restorations, who is renowned for flawless restorations and award winning show car builds.  Every part, down to the finer details, was either restored or replaced to achieve a full nut-and-bolt restoration, resulting in a £75,000 investment in this build.

The restoration began by stripping the paintwork back to bare metal in preparation for a full respray in the flat gloss grey it currently features. The black soft-top mohair hood, combined with the lowered stance, original steel wheels refurbished in satin black, and all new or replaced chrome details, completes a very clean and stylish ‘outlaw’ appearance.

Moving inside, the interior has been fully reupholstered with grey German weave carpets and full red leather on the seats, rear bench, dashboard top, door cards, and rear quarter panels. The dashboard has been finished in the same flat gloss grey as the exterior and features brand-new clocks, original controls, and an old-school radio disguised as a Bluetooth/USB replacement. Additionally, it includes a Gene Berg shifter and an EMPI GT steering wheel.

Mechanically, this vehicle requires nothing, as everything has been replaced or restored. The engine is a fully restored and uprated 1641cc motor with twin Weber 40 carburettors, currently showing very minimal mileage since its restoration, as it has been predominantly dry-stored since then, aside from a visit to the Volksworld Show in 2021.  Prior to the restoration, we installed and precisely balanced the CSP front and rear brake disc and caliper setup.

In addition to what has been included in the for-sale listing, we have an album full of hundreds of images documenting the restoration build, which is available to view upon request.
