1961 VW Beetle registered in Massachusetts with one owner; a policewoman who bought the car when she was 18 years old and was used until around 1994 when it was parked up in her garage.
In 2017 it was sold and imported into the UK.
Being a car from the north eastern area of the US welding was required. So the body was taken off with new floors, heater channels, bumper mounts, front quarters, front bulkhead etc. The bodywork is mostly all original; lots of original paint, patina and battle scars which tell the cars story.
A mechanical overhaul was also undertaken with new brakes, brake lines, front wheel bearings and exhaust. The car is running a later 1500cc single port engine. New fuel tank with fuel gauge added under the dash. Work in the last few years includes; rear drums, front and rear window seals, clutch and pressure plate, clutch cable and gearbox mounts.
Inside insulation and new carpets were fitted. Period seat covers remain (with originals – yet to be explored! underneath) headlining remains in tact.
Since i have owned the car i have converted it to 12v - it starts on the button and the engine purrs along. recent oil change
This is a great little car with bags of character, ready to be enjoyed.
